Timeline for Ensay

I wanted to provide a breif summary of his situation here for you to grasp without having to read through all the blog entries.

1. On 3/15/12 a string of suspicious bruises which led his doctor to do a blood test.
2. We were notified to admit him into ER at the Stanford Hospital due to "dangerously" low platelet count (6,000).
3. No clear diagnosis arrived, and based on ITP diagnosis, IVIG treatment started but provided no impact.
4. Discharged and continued on another medication (pill) but that also provided no impact.
5. Doctor ordered a second bone marrow biopsy, and from it showed aplastic anemia.
6. Treatment options in order of effectiveness are: 1) matching siblingss bone marrow transplant; 2) ATG; 3) third-party bone marrow transplant.
7. Some minor hemorrhages occurred in Ensay's brain and in one eye, and since the siblings did not match for the bone marrow transplant, doctor proceeded with ATG on 4/28 and then starting on 5/4 through now, he is on Cyclosporin (pill).
8. There were many side effect reactions he had to overcome, and he has been missing school for many days.
9. As of 5/28/12, He is currently stable on taking the medications and doctors are frequently monitoring his blood counts to observe the effectiveness of the treatment.  So far, his platelets are decreasing slower than before (which is good), but his red blood cells are still very low.  His neutrophil has been decreasing also (lowering his immune system).
10. As of 5/30/12, the local school district has identified an in-home tutor who will help Ensay to catch up in his school work even if it means extending into some part of the summer in some of the classes.
11. Since 6/11/12, Ensay will do the CBC only once a week.
12. On 6/21/12, Ensay's paltelet count doubled to 21,000 without having any transfusions.
13. On 7/10/12, Ensay's platelet count sustained at 35,000, reticulocytes at 6.2%, neutrophil at 1,300.  Still did not need transfusions.
14. On 7/17/12, Ensay's platelet count doubled to 63,000, neutrophil at 1,200, hemoglobin at 10,000.
15. On 8/14/12, Ensay's platelet count reached 94,000, hemoglobin at 12,000 (normal range is 12,600 to 16,100)
16. Ensay's been doing the CBC every other week now and as of 11/13/12, his platelet count reached 119,000, neutrophil at 2,320, hemoglobin at 13,300.
17. On 1/2/2013, all of Ensay's blood counts reached normal range.  His platelet jumped 32,000 to reach 147,000 which is the bottom of a normal range.  Ten months ago his platelet count was almost non-existent.
18. On 8/12/2013, all of Ensay's CBC reached normal ranges again after reducing his medication to about half of what he started with.  This means that his body is continuing to produce blood on his own.
